"In addition to my attraction to pink, we have noticed in Rome and ancient cities in Italy and France, and England as well, the beautiful wearing down of stone and pavement and various wall surfaces have become layered with history over long periods of time. Perhaps stucco or painted directly or coloured concrete where a new layer is applied and then worn down over time, as true of most architecture worldwide. I am fond of this multiplicity and richness of layering with architecture, whether a church facade or old stone wall, perhaps a wall with some remnants of graffiti. The results are a richly adorned surface that are not so much "made" as rather happens over time. This layering appeals to me a good deal and in a Komarin painting - as forms and spaces are moved and adjusted often again and again... the surface gets built up over time in ways that seem to be outside my control." - Gary Komarin
